I guess that I got lucky. I like the group of students that I got this year. I only knew one of them previous to testing. Of the 13 I tested today 4 were African American and 1 was Hispanic and the rest were white. Three have tattoos or gaugings, one is gay and at least 3 are certifiable computer geeks. They are taking the test somewhat seriously but none have spent the time on it that I would have. I think a few of them have NO chance of passing this year but there are a few who may. Of the test I gave so far only two had anyone stay the entire time. Most students took only one third the time allowed to finish. One girl has a Betty Boop shirt on that says, “I traded my boyfriend in for a puppy”. About 4-5 have logos of bands or brands on their shirts and the rest are wearing t-shirts that have no writing. T-shirts and hoodies seem to be the uniform.
While we separate students it would be possible to cheat because the tests are all the same. I think that is crazy. No one has tried however I did see one guy try to peek at a girl’s booklet, but he gave up quickly.
Several of the students have asked for help. I don’t help them, I just have to reassure them and tell them to trust what they know. They seem content with that answer.
On a totally different topic, there are some people who just do better with a pencil or pen rather than a mouse. I remember that long ago we had a board that you could draw on and the drawing would go onto the computer. The closest thing I have to that now is my PDA. I would have thought that this would be a feasible thing as well as a common one—I guess there just isn’t much call for it.
I am glad there is only one more day of testing and that tonight is church activity night. I didn't feel I should interupt testing to go into my room but the teacher there didn't seem to mind and as a matter of fact she was surfing the web and making phone calls. I finally left after talking to students and went swimming then came home and had a big burrito lunch. Mozilla and Blogger don't seem to be compatible, I keep having to use explorer to use it. OH, well. I have a faculty meeting tomorrow at 2 which was just put in my box today. I hope I'm out of the doctor by then. If not, too bad, so sad.
