We had a two hour delay today due to the weather. We lost power twice today because a semi-tractor trailer hit a transformer pole on the corner. The first time we had no warning and only lost power for 5 seconds or so. The second time we had a warning and lost it for about 20 minutes.

I went to the rest room and saw the newer special education teacher going into the handicapped rest room ahead of me. I use it sometimes because it is easier when I am having a ‘flair’ of my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I said to her “I didn’t know you were disabled.” She was completely oblivious to the fact that the first stall was for handicapped women. I told her that and that I used it occasionally due to my RA and that I was acutely aware of people using it since in 10-15 years I would be in a wheelchair and wouldn’t have a choice. She just shrugged it off and said she hadn’t noticed that it was any different and that it was just the closest one. I pointed out that it was more comfortable due to its size and that they should perhaps all be that way since everyone wanted to use it. It seems to be a losing battle. What irks me is that she is our special education teacher and should be very aware of these issues.

Tonight the state senators and representatives have been invited to a reception at our school in an effort to court their attention to the fact that adult education needs to stay at the local districts rather than at the community colleges. These community colleges just want our money and I don’t think they have the facilities, the strategies, or the intent to give the adults we serve the services that we do.
