Goddess, I think not. One of the special education students came into my class last night and I helped her with her work. I showed her how to use the toolbar to locate information in her text. She was able to find her work quickly and was very happy, so happy she called me a god. What a joke! I told her she could call me a goddess, not a god. Anyway today I helped a student do her math. You would think that I was the only teacher who helps the students from the way they talk. Last night another girl told me that she only wanted to come to my night class because she didn’t like the other teacher. When you asked for help he acted bothered. Me, I act goofy, I tell them that I am bored unless they need my help, so they’d better ask for it, or I will bug them! I also call them when they don’t come to class. Today I called one and her husband answered and said she was on her way to class. This worries me because she still hasn’t gotten here. This means something is wrong or that she is lying to her husband and I have just gotten into the middle of it. Uh Oh
The other self esteem booster that happened yesterday was that I went over to the remote site for ABE and repaired the problems that they had. The monitor on one did not work because it didn’t have a power cable. That was a simple fix. Then the printer did not work, but that was because the wrong drivers were installed. It was set-up for the network printers here at school, so I uninstalled those drivers and reinstalled the new printer drivers. The entire thing took me less than 10 minutes. The teacher and students were thrilled and I still made it to my noon appointment on time after school.
I have a couple of girls who are probably about to have their babies and I am anxious to hear how they are. Tomorrow I have a guest speaker coming to class to talk about disciplining your child. I have had several students come in and request to take some of the elective courses and I would love to give them some more materials but some of it has gotten lost. I have requested more materials but the boss lost them. I have to find the orders again so that they can be ordered. The problem with having such a busy boss is that his office is a paperwork nightmare where all sorts of stuff gets lost in the shuffle.
Last Friday I went to the computer educators’ conference and I really didn’t see anything new. I went to the Texas educators conference over 12 years ago and really the same stuff that was new then is still what is new now, but now there are more bells and whistles. The workshops were the same old thing. I am going to a science teacher’s conference next week. I expect that it will not be much different but I hope I will get a few ideas from it.
We are still scheduled to move. The building we are in has been sold. The date of departure has been moved up. The new date is the end of July instead of the end of May.
I am not looking forward to the move since I will be upstairs and since the building is smaller. The only grace is that the building is newer. That is not necessarily a good thing however.
I also am not happy with my computer. There is nothing really wrong with the computer it is just that I lost a lot of data when they transferred me from my old computer to this one. I also don’t have the privacy and auto complete features set up the same way and I cannot figure out how to do so. It may not be possible now that I am on the Novell network. I didn’t want to be on the network but they insisted that I must.
