I spent the day over at my friend Random's house watching his girls while he went to clear out the stuff from his deceased wife's carrel at the university. There was a lot of stuff there including some food that had a year old expiration date. Not as old as some of the food I found in a certain SF writer's refrigerator when I cleaned it, but that's another story. The girls and I read books, played and just had fun. When their daddy got home they watched Snow White and fell asleep (after me trying for 2 hours to get them to fall asleep earlier in the afternoon). He got all the stuff into the attic. I don't know what he will do with it all. It just reinforces the fact that we American's have too much stuff. When one of us dies, it takes so much to get rid of our stuff. She even gave a few things away before hand...
Of course when my dad goes (and it may be soon) there won't be much. His life is his cigarettes and his TV. Besides, he is leaving his wife. I wonder though, does he have a will? They should think about that. It would be the ultimate irony if my step-sister (who he hates) got everything.
